CLOSE SHOT

As you can see from the
aerial photos Calhoun (esp our area) is heavy with timber.
This is why it supports a lot more pressure per acre than Pike.
In areas with lots of
fields the deer gets channeled and contained
due to their natural desire to keep to cover.
When you have lots of timber they are under much less pressure
because they are
never forced to pass anything that scares them. If they scented a
hunter at point A
they have 10 ways to avoid it without breaking significant cover.
I have a hard time getting this concept across to hunters used to
hunting average farm land.
If there is something a deer wants to get to (and not even one in
heat) in Calhoun type territory,
nothing will stop it except you setting right where he wants to go
because there are too many ways past you that are no threat to him.
MEDIUM SHOT

Note in this last photo our upper field.
It runs up and to the left of the orange marker.
Look at all the other fields and how much lighter they are.
Whereas ours almost blends into the woods.
It is because ours has lain fallow for 20 years.
